So, I write mostly poetry/song lyrics and have been writing them since I was a kid. At around 12 I was told "don't throw anything out, no matter how bad you think it is. You can always use it for inspiration, and someone else may like it" (strictly speaking about stuff I wrote) So I started collecting. Since then I have filled over two journals. However, what I really want to write are stories. I have a series of kids books in my head, and a novel (that has probably become a series of youth books instead). I have the first book of the kids series written, but I think it needs to be redone...I wrote it when I was about 15. I haven't been able to make myself re write it and I'm not sure where my original copy is...Also, I haven't been able to start the second one yet. As for the novel/youth books, I'm not sure where to start for that one, I think I have to rethink my whole approach. But maybe this forum will help me find what I need to get going? It is kind of hard to find time to write with three little ones at home Munchkie is my almost 6 year old girl Pixie is the twin girl who is One minute older SweetTea is the younger twin (she's taller and weighs more now but was smaller when born) they are my wonderful, amazing, delightful distractions; I think what I want to work on first will be my children's books for them

I'm excited to see your kid's stuff. I have started a series of kids books for my boys, based on an anthropomorphic otter.
Ermo T. Otter is the Prince of All Otters
I had a CD wallet that came from the lotto commission, some kind of random branded swag I got when I was working at a gas station/convenience store that sold scratch tickets and powerball/megabucks. The lettering began to peel:
Vermont Lottery
Vermont Lottery
There was some other catch phrase or some such on it as well, also peeling. The surviving letters: en una onis. Clearly this is Ancient Otter for something yet to be determined, and serves as The Royal Motto. Maybe I should make sure it doesn't really mean something in some language...
These stories have been shared with many over the years, and now that I have sons I want to commit them to paper. I have a couple of friends who want to help me with this, one graphic designer/programmer and one illustrator.

Scribbliz! Hello ;D How old are your twins? It does sound like you have a lot on your hands. I'm struggling with two boys At least they are cute. I had a school representative visit today and the house was a wreck, I was wearing my husbands clothes and the kids were eating breakfast. They both started pelting the poor lady with handfuls of cheerios! It was awful! Anyway, glad to see your introduction. I would love to see any progress you want to share with your books ;D

Please share when you finish it!

RedilyGrey, Pixie and SweatT are both almost 4. Actually ALL my girls have birthdays in October! Sorry about your experience with the school representative, how did she handle the cheerio bombardment?? (and were they dry cheerios or wet with milk??) How old are your boys??
PaperGrace, I would LOVE to read some of your kids stories too! I love kids stories!
You have both inspired me, I will look for my first Dog Detective book, and if I can find it, I will post it! It would be great to have some feedback on an age range to aim for.

It would be great to have some feedback on an age range to aim for. She turned out to be a college intern doing interviews for her degree, I missunderstood her purpose, lol. Oh well, the house was thoroughly cleaned anyway ;D They were dry cheerios, I long ago learned that my children are not yet ready for a bowl of liquid She handled it well though. When she returned they kept climbing her and stealing things out of her backpack. Even the cat got in on it, chewing on her pen and walking across her, lol. She ended up doing the interview standing, with her pack on and her papers held up high. I really do try to control my kids, it just doesn't work that well when something exciting happens like company My sons are 4 and 2.5. I'm excited about all the kids stories as well, it will give me something new to read to them ;D

Hi there, and duh, I missed your intro! That was good advice you got as a young writer, I totally have to agree. Please post some of your song lyrics, I'll bet they're remarkable! And, you sound like me: I think I have to rethink my whole approach I think thinking can be hazardous to our stories' health lol
