Hi, so I have a very vague idea in my head about a story. The character will be Morgan le Faye's granddaughter...due to magic the granddaughter is born in modern times...oh, and just to make this interesting, Morgan le Faye (in my story) was Fae, or more specifically Sidhe. Now I will obviously need to do a bit of research about King Arthur and Merlin, but how much? How accurate do I want this to be? I was thinking that I want this to be my world, and that in my world, my character reveals that the common myths about them were wrong... ? thoughts/.??

I was thinking that I want this to be my world, and that in my world, my character reveals that the common myths about them were wrong... This is perfect! Research until you're bored with it. See if you can find some good tidbits for the character to react to (be annoyed by? lol). You just need enough to have the feel. If you make it clear that this is your own interpretation you don't need to know much of the legends at all, just enough to know what to refute

So, next question, how much of the modern world do I keep??? I'm thinking that since the Sidhe are basically non-existant in this realm, and those who have "mixed blood" have hidden it out of fear, pretending to be human, i'm thinking it will look much like it does now; kind of like it was portrayed in the Buffy universe? It's there, but the vast majority of people don't know about it?? The idea in my head is very very vague still...I jotted down the basic points I have so far, and it filled less than a page and a half, but it feels novel worthy. I may post my concept up and see what people think of it?

Post your concept ;D I'd love to see it!
I thought the Buffy Verse worked very well. Supernatural did the same sort of thing where the otherworldly is present at all times but just under the radar of most people.

the concept needs a bit more work before it's " postable" I don't think anyone but me could decyfer (spelling please???) what I meant when I wrote certain things down...and it is full of half sentences and odd words stuck here and there as a thought would come to me, and I'l half to jot it down before it was gone...I will try to smooth it out a bit today and post it asap

If you'd posted it now I'd sit here analyzing it instead

ok, so I have a synopsis written, and will try to post it later today....I have to type it up on my computer first. And come up with names for at least two characters! One male (name from any era) and one female (more modern) I was thinking Kateraina for the girl???

the concept has been posted under the Fantasy Submissions section. It's titled "Concept - Future of Flames" though the title of the story is also a work in progress. Please, be patient with it, I ended up called the main male character "Bob" for now. It WILL change. It ended up clearer than I thought it would be...I hope it gets the idea across. Any thoughts for how much research I should do here would be good? I'm going to have to research the Sidhe a bit, and see what folklore I can find about them. But I don't think I'll have to do a lot for the King Arthur side of things as the characters won't be dealing with humans much at all....thoughts??

I imagine an Arthurian order infiltrating the layers of modern mortal government--illuminati style--secretly enacting policies to benefit the Merlin group. Don't wait too long to rename Bob or we'll start to be attached. I already imagine him to look like my dear friend Bob, who is an actor, and if you write fast enough will still be young enough to play him in the movie adaptation. Modified to add: I would do research as long as it was bringing fresh ideas, and when it starts to be something you aren't looking forward to call it good, only researching specific things as needed at that point.

Douglas Adams addressed this in "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul" where the immortal gods of Asgard are still around but nobody sees them. Thor is asked, "Even when you're wearing the helmet?" and he yells, "ESPECIALLY when I'm wearing the helmet!"

Thor is asked, "Even when you're wearing the helmet?" and he yells, "ESPECIALLY when I'm wearing the helmet!" Ha ha! I NEED to read that now. The title had me, but then the helmet part took me to breakfast ;D One of my favorite trilogies has that kind of humor, the writing has errors, but I don't care. It's just too funny. The Exploits of Ebeneezum, by Craig Shaw Gardener. Endless crazy fantasy hijinks. There is a talking sword that's afraid of blood, an incompetent apprentice that conjures ferrets every time he says, "perhaps," a brownie that can only conjure shoes, a rhyming demon...I just love it so much.
