One of Husband's oldest friends, Charlie Brooks is an author who has learned a few things about being published (read, had some terrible things happen to him). His newest book comes out in a month or so from an independent publisher called Grey Gecko Publishing. They are a small operation in Texas, which is where the woman who has done the art for his book is located. I was just checking out their submission guidlines... hmmm...
Anyway, this is Charlie's Book:

And this is where it's sold:

At some point when he's a little less busy (he works a regular job, has a son in between the ages of my boys, his wife is a performer, and he is a novelist, comic book critic, and blogger for babycenter) I want to talk to him about how/why he picked this particular publisher especially after getting his first book published and getting screwed over. His second book was published by an small indy label too, and I'm curious why he has moved on to this one. Charlie will have to come over for a play date and let me pick his brain. I think I may want to see if he'll answer some specific questions formally. I'm going to start a list in this thread later.
LIZ: Charlie's first published book, Shadowslayers was written for NaNoWriMo! He was working on his 'real' book at the time, but heard about NaNo and jumped right in. Husband says it was based on a D&D game. I think its kind of funny that his short little NaNo book made it to press before the book he'd been working so hard on.
