I've been doing the same/opposite RE: computer time. I've been limiting and therefore spending what time I do have over on the other site! No FB, no Pinterest, etc...

so i've finished what revising i can do for now. now i need to wait for reviews to see if further work is needed. wasn't sure what to do, so i decided to take a break for the weekend. hurt my neck somehow, and yesterday was really bad. so i did nothing yesterday. today we took the kids to K Days (the biggest faire in edmonton); it was fun, but i didnt' do anything today either. really didnt' plan to do much. figured the two days off wouldn't be a problem and would give me a chance to decide what i want to do.
looks like i'm going to work on a short story, starting tomorrow. I'm excited. it's going to be quite different, and is going to deal with something close to what i've personally experienced. it's a little different, the details are different, but the emotions and such of the main character will be very much like what i've dealt with. really nervous because it will be more personal than anything i've ever written.

I know what you all mean about trying to find the right balance between internet, and non-internet writing time. I can get so lost so quickly on my computer. Yesterday I wasted a large chunk of my writing time learning about pseudoscorpions (although have you looked at one? It's like a spider scorpion hybrid monstrosity that I never even knew existed, yet live in my county--how could I not research them? : . FB seems to stress me out or distract me, but writing forums tend to actually help me focus, as long as I don't go on them during actual scheduled writing time. I haven't been back on SOS yet, I'm trying not to overwhelm myself by adding one forum back at a time. I know I've posted on a number of other writing forums over the years--are there any other ones that seem really helpful/good vibe-y at the moment? Scribbliz: I'm glad your neck is getting better, and good luck with your short story

readily; do you write on a laptop? there's actually a button on most laptops that you can click that will disconnect your internet. that way if you go to research something, you'll have to turn the internet back on and it will make you think "do I really need to do this now, or is this something I can reasearch later?" often, i find that I can just leave myself a note to research whatever i need later, and then continue on with writing. something you do need to know before you write, but most just gives you extra info to smooth out the writing.

Thank you for this wonderful tip! I never even noticed that button was there I tried it out and it forces me to stop and ask myself "do I need to look that up now, or can I make a note of it and wait until later?" which was exactly what I needed to prevent myself from becoming lost on the internet
